BEHIND THE CALCULATION
Understand your result.
Estimate your monthly payment, total interest and repayment schedule for a fixed-rate loan.
How the calculation works
The monthly rate is the nominal annual interest rate divided by 12. For principal P, monthly rate r and n monthly payments, payment = P × r / (1 − (1 + r)^−n). At 0% interest, payment = P / n. Interest is charged on the outstanding balance each month; the rest repays principal. Optional monthly overpayments reduce the outstanding principal and can shorten repayment. The final payment is limited to the amount still owed.
A loan of 20,000 at 6% nominal annual interest over 5 years has a monthly payment of approximately 386.66 and total interest of approximately 3,199.36, before any fees.
Assumptions & limitations
- Equal monthly payments, with the first payment one month after borrowing.
- The nominal interest rate remains fixed; calculations retain precision until display.
- Optional monthly overpayments are included; fees, insurance, taxes, prepayment penalties and lender-specific day-count rules are excluded.
- This is an interest-rate illustration, not a calculation of legally defined APR or Polish RRSO.
